Dean Zipperman was appointed to the Los Angeles City Fire Department (LAFD) on February 2, 1986. Having held the ranks of Firefighter, Apparatus Operator, Captain I, Captain II, Battalion Chief, and recently promoted to Assistant Chief and serves as the Assistant Bureau Commander of Operations West Bureau. In his 34 years of service with the LAFD, Chief Zipperman has proudly served the citizens of Los Angeles in assignments across the City and has been part of several large scale emergency events including the 1992 Civil Disturbance, the 1994 Northridge Earthquake, the Devon-Wilshire Residential Hi-Rise Fire and the Trader Joe's Active Shooter Incident.

Chief Zipperman has several certifications in ICS, Hazardous Materials, State Fire Training and Wildland. Currently Chief Zipperman is completing his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration. He has attended the University of Southern California (USC) Sol Price Executive Leadership Program, a graduate of the Los Angeles Fire Department's Leadership Academy and attended the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service Program.

In January of 2020, Chief Zipperman was selected to replace Battalion Chief Timothy Kelly on the FIRESCOPE Task Force. Chief Zipperman was selected to serve as the Liaison to the Safety Specialist Group. He has also been assigned to serve as the Secondary Liaison for the GIS Specialist Group. He is proud to be working alongside such a talented group of fire service professionals who are representing local, state and federal fire agencies throughout California.
