Privacy Policy

Updated: 4/13/22

The Firescope division of the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is pleased to provide digital access to its Field of Operations Guide identified in this App. Your use of the App is subject to this Privacy Policy.

Cal OES is committed to promoting and protecting the privacy rights of individuals under state and federal law. It is the policy of Cal OES to limit the collection of personal information and to safeguard the privacy of personal information collected or maintained by Cal OES.

  • This App does not collect any Personal Information.
  • This App automatically collects Non-Personal Analytical Information.

Personal Information vs. Non-Personal Analytical Information

"Personal Information" is information that would allow someone to identify or contact you, including, for example, your name, address, telephone number or email address. Personal Information does not include anonymous analytical information.
“Non-Personal Analytical Information” is aggregated information that, by itself, does not permit the identification of individual persons (like statistics about which are the most used parts of the App, how the end user navigated to those parts), and standard Google Analytics information such as type of device, phone software version, how long the App is in use, and relative location.

What Non-Personal Analytical Information does Cal OES collect, maintain or share from this App?

The App uses a feature of your device’s browser called a "cookie" to assign a unique number that automatically identifies your device when you visit the App. A cookie is a piece of data stored on your device containing information about your visit. It is only used for anonymous analytics, and for no other reason. This anonymous analytical information is used on an aggregated basis (not personally identifiable) to do such things as allow Cal OES to operate the App, improve the content of the App and help understand how individuals are using the App. Cal OES may disclose aggregated information about the App’s users, but that information contains no Personal Information specific to you. This electronically-collected information is exempt from requests made under the California Public Records Act.

Links within the App

When you click a link in the App (e.g., to access a PDF form to fill out during a fire incident), it leads you to an outside website that is not part of the App. You can follow the instructions on that website to complete and submit the forms. Any Personal Information you provide when you submit a completed form is addressed by the Privacy Policy governing that website (and not this App’s Privacy Policy).

Controls for Do-Not-Track Features

Most web browsers and some mobile operating systems include a Do-Not-Track (“DNT”) feature or setting you can activate to signal your privacy preference not to have data about your online browsing activities monitored and collected.  No uniform technology standard for recognizing and implementing DNT signals has been finalized. As such, the App does not currently respond to DNT browser signals or any other mechanism that automatically communicates your choice not to be tracked online. If a standard for online tracking is adopted that CAL OES must follow in the future, you will be informed about that practice in a revised version of this Privacy Policy.

Cal OES hopes this policy clarifies its procedures regarding your Personal Information and this App. You will be notified of any significant changes to this Privacy Policy in a revised version of this Privacy Policy. Cal OES may also make nonsignificant changes to this Privacy Policy that generally will not affect the non-collection or use of your Personal Information.
