He joined the San Diego Fire-Rescue Hazmat Team in 2008 and has operated as a Firefighter, Engineer, Captain, and Battalion Chief on the Hazmat Team. He is currently the Hazmat Program Manager. Chief Robert Rezende was born in Los Angeles but grew up in Brazil. He graduated high school in Arlington, VA, attended Penn State University for his undergraduate studies and received two master’s degrees from San Diego State University in Exercise Physiology and Nutritional Sciences. In January of 2023 Chief Rezende was selected to replace Assistant Chief Dave Gerboth to serve on the FIRESCOPE Task Force. He currently serves as the FIRESCOPE Secretary. Vice Chair | <div class="ExternalClassD7F3B475F22F4D59880BD0334599E227"><p>Los Angeles City Fire Department<br></p></div> | <div class="ExternalClass2B860345ED554593BF590770C4ADC75E"><div>Chief Roberts was appointed to the Los Angeles City Fire Department March 27th 2006 at the age of 22. He has served the communities of South Los Angeles, Watts, Los Angeles World</div><div>Airport, and Highland Park. He was promoted to the rank of Captain I in 2014, Captain II in 2017, and to Battalion Chief in 2023.</div><div>Chief Roberts attended Eastside Christian High School in Fullerton California. He then attended Santa Ana College, where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science. Lastly he completed a</div><div>Bachelor’s Degree in Human Speech Studies from California State University at Fullerton. He is currently enrolled in a Master’s program in Organizational Leadership.</div><div>Chief Roberts is currently serving as the Planning Section Commander in the Fire Chief’s Office.</div><div>He previously commanded a Battalion in the DownTown area of Los Angeles. He has also participated in After Action Review teams, the Survival Training Cadre, and Los Angeles County-wide HazMat Instruction. He is certified as a HazMat Specialist with numerous</div><div>accompanying discipline certifications. He is part of the LFD Incident Management Team as the Planning Section Chief.</div><div>In April of 2019 Chief Roberts was selected to serve on the California FIRESCOPE Hazardous Materials Subcommittee. He served as the Vice Chair for two years. In May of 2023 he was</div><div>selected by Fire Chief Kristin M. Crowley to serve as the FIRESCOPE Task Force representative.</div><div>He is also serving as the Lithium Ion Battery Ad Hoc Subcommittee Vice-Chair. Being associated with such a prestigious organization is one of Chief Roberts’ greatest honors where he works proudly alongside a talented group of fire service professionals.</div><div>During his time away from work, Chief Roberts enjoys spending time with his three children and his wife who was his high school sweetheart.
