Through close to 30 years of public service he has worked for New Mexico State Forestry and as part of multiple Incident Management Teams, and for many years owned Santa Fe Wildfire, which provided resources for large scale incident management and response. Through this time, he also served as the Chair of the International Association of Fire Chiefs Wildland Fire Policy Committee and as a principal member of the Wildland Fire Leadership Council. Litzenberg holds a master's degree in public administration from the University of New Mexico and a master's degree in security studies from the Naval Postgraduate School, and is a doctoral candidate in sports administration. Litzenberg is a Senior Wildland Fire Advisor for the International Association of Fire Chiefs, and a current member of the National Wildfire Coordinating Group Executive Board. He is also the owner and lead consultant for Liderazgo Consulting, which focuses on government, leadership and team building. Aitor began his wildfire career in 1982 with the U.S. Forest Service where he served in various fire management positions. Throughout his 17 years with the USFS he served on Incident Management Teams (IMT), Initial Attack and Extended Attack IC, engine Captain, hotshot crew member and a Type 1 Prescribed Fire Burn Boss. In 1999, he joined the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) at its national office for fire management at the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC). During his nine years with the BLM, he initially served as the Deputy Fire Training Officer and later the principal Fire Training Officer for BLM. In 2008, Aitor joined the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) in support of the agency's wildfire mission. In that role he works daily with partner agencies at the NIFC where he currently serves on the Executive Board for the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) responsible for developing wildfire standards at the national level. He also serves on the National Multi-Agency Coordinating (NMAC) groups which is responsible for the prioritization and allocation of national resources among the 10 Geographic Areas in the country during periods of elevated wildfire activity as well as adjudicating resource commitments to disaster response in support of ESF4 when requested by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).<br></p><p><br></p></div> | mailto: jose.bidaburu@usfa.fema.gov | Aitor Bidaburu | |
